**UPDATED: Sept 23rd**

Come on out!! Everybody is welcome to join us for our last organized cruise of 2009! Our annual Fall Colors drive is a fantastic way to cap off another fantastic season of car related fun while enjoying some of the most beautiful roads in the Pacific Northwest!

**NEW ROUTE**

In an attempt to keep things new and exciting, we are changing our ways and will be pointing the needle Northward this year! Our new route will take us up and over the Chewelah Peak pass and drop us down into the Pend Oreille River valley. We'll stop for lunch in Metaline Falls, in the very corner of WA state. Our trip home will take us by Sullivan Lake and down into Idaho before we turn back toward Spokane. It should be a lot of fun, with some fantastic scenery.

Click here for a "Google Map" of the route.

West side members: check forum for details about caravaning over with other W side members!

Drive Details:

Saturday, October 10th 2009
Approximately 200 miles

    - We’ll meet up at the Wandermere Albertson's store parking lot. 12566 N Division (This location has food and gas nearby for your convenience.)

    - Meet-up at 9:30am. Please arrive with full tank and ready to go.

    - Departure – 10:00am

    - North on Hwy 395 to Chewelah, WA.

    - Turn East toward Chewelah Peak (49* North ski hill) on Flowery Trail Road.

    - Stop at top of Pass.

    - Continue W on Flowery Trail Rd.

    - Turn LEFT on Hwy 20, continuing on StRt 31 thru Ione and on to Metaline Falls.

    - LUNCH @ Western Star Bar & Grill - 202 State Route 31 1:00 ish.

    - Head north out of town and turn RIGHT on Sullivan Lake Rd, around the lake and then continuing on Le Clerc Rd

    - Turn RIGHT on Hwy 2. We'll make a brief stop in Newport to top off fuel and empty the "tank" if needed

    - We'll continue on Hwy 2 back into Spokane with no other scheduled stops. I expect to get back around 5 pm.

Since I'm not able to make the Montana Run, I may attempt to come over for this one.

This also sounds like a brilliant idea. Hoping to make both MT and Fall Colours.

Good question.
I'm proposing that we go North to Chewelah,
over the pass,
up toward Metaline Falls,
around to Sullivan Lake,
back down the E side of the river to Newport,
then back to Spokane.

I haven't mapped out the actual route, yet.

UMM, YES! I love Metaline Falls-Sullivan lake area. (grew up camping there) This would be a fun run.

This may be true.
There are several small towns along the route, so each of them will have their own law enforcement. Rt 31 is also patrolled regularly.
On the occasions that I've been up there, I haven't noticed any high concentration of police or unreasonable infraction distribution.
If we can keep it cool, our group shouldn't get hassled.

Also, route should be clear of any construction projects:

1 minor edit:

Due to another large group having lunch at 1, we will be seated around 2 or shortly after at The Western Star in Metaline Falls, WA.
There is really no other place that I can suggest to accommodate us for lunch, so it is what it is.

We can probably delay our departure time by :30 min, if needed.

I plan on being at this one. I don't have to work, but I may need to bring the kids. Oh well, I'm not gonna miss it!

Excellent! I'll talk to Matt tomorrow, but if we don't have to pay for a hotel and keep the bar hopping below $100 then I'm sure we both can make it.

Google says the Western Star is a tavern. Is it a 21 and over location?
